This August, something extraordinary stirs in the heart of Adelaide’s cultural scene. South Australia’s only professional ballet company, Adelaide Ballet, makes its much-anticipated season debut with the Australian premiere of Murray Whispers, a groundbreaking fusion of movement, music, and digital art.
Running for three nights only (August 15–17) at the city’s bold new venue ILA, Murray Whispers is the latest creation from Adelaide Ballet’s Co-Founders and Artistic Directors Sarah Humeniuk and Rejane Garcia. Drawing deep inspiration from the rhythms and spirit of the Murray River, the work captures the essence of water’s constant motion, fluid, powerful, and ever-transforming.
But this is not ballet as you know it.
Set against an original live score and featuring large-scale LED visuals by acclaimed local artists Thomas Oates and Scott Baskett, Murray Whispers offers a multi-sensory experience unlike anything Adelaide has seen before. Expect a mesmerising blend of contemporary ballet, immersive soundscapes, and digital projection that surrounds and envelops the audience in a living, breathing artwork.
Held at ILA a creative space known for pushing the boundaries of performance and visual storytelling, this debut season marks a bold step forward for the city’s performing arts. Whether you’re a dance lover, an art aficionado, or simply curious to see what happens when movement meets media, Murray Whispers is not to be missed.
