Adelaide singer-songwriter Tara Carragher has been treading the boards here in Adelaide and beyond for a few years now, and has been quite prolific releasing new music. A lover of poetic storytelling, Tara’s trademark Americana/Alt Country sound and lyrics may be influenced by her extended overseas travels, but the soul of her sound is truly at home here in Australia.
Her second recording, Wicked World, which will officially launch on June 3 at The Wheatsheaf Hotel is a suitable showcase of her beautifully honest lyricism and her earthy, folksy guitar tones.
Starting the EP boldly, ‘Rebuild my Heart’, is a rumbling number with snare shuffles and Tara’s trademark vocals, which segues nicely into the title track, ‘Wicked World’ a song reminiscent of Ryan Adams’ more crooning moments.
‘I’m Lost’ steps deeply into American country territory, a song that would resonate well live, with some slick playing from accompanying musicians. ‘Give Me The Road’ starts off delicately. The additional piano and lap-steel really highlight Tara’s vocals, which truly shine on this release.
Notably, the artwork on this release is outstanding, courtesy of local artist and photographer Susana Murphy from Kookimoon Design.
Wicked World is an EP that is an entirely listenable snapshot of the work of a talented and valued local artist.
