Australian heartthrob and star on the rise Aydan Calafiore has appeared on two TV shows, worked alongside Joe Jonas and kicked off his own Australian tour; an impressive CV for a seventeen-year-old boy from Moonee Ponds.

Despite his busy schedule, Aydan took time out to speak with The Upside News as he relaxed at home, appreciating the simpler things in life.

When he isn’t battling other singers on The Voice you can find Aydan online battling gamers, which he says he does for respite.

“Being a singer I need to rest my voice, so I like play video games with my friends or watch YouTube, just the normal stuff,” he says.

Since becoming a finalist on the seventh series of The Voice, Aydan Calafiore has become a household name and won the hearts of many around the country.

However, he reassures me he has only one thing on his mind and that’s his music.

“At the moment I’m focusing on writing sessions with Universal and several producers, which is awesome,” Aydan laughs. “I’m super busy, but I love it. I have plenty of time for girls, I just want to focus on my music right now.”

It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Aydan though. During a performance on The Voice he was accused of lip-syncing by host Sonia Kruger.

However, where most young people would falter, Aydan took the criticism in his stride.

“It was a valid point, really, as I was singing in the rain and there’s no way a microphone could work under water. I’d probably say the same thing. I’ve been dealing with criticism for a long time, it doesn’t really faze me and I have developed a thick skin,” he says.

“Everyone has their own opinion and you can’t try to change that, you’ve just got to be happy within yourself, accept it and do your own thing.”

With such a long and prosperous career ahead of him Aydan remains humble, although, he admits to not having a fall back plan.

“Whether I’m on a huge stage or it’s just 100 people, as long as I’m making music I’ll be happy,” he says.  “To be honest, I can’t really do anything else. I’ve been doing this since I was a kid. So I’m definitely giving the music thing a good run.”

Part of that good run is his upcoming tour, which includes an all ages gig on Saturday 8 September 2018 at The Gov with limited meet and greet tickets available.
