A TASTE OF PORTUGAL IN PORT NOARLUNGA

Summer is set to get even hotter with the arrival of Cabana Club, a new cocktail bar at Port Noarlunga.

Brought to life by Filipe and Paula Horta, the owners of award-winning seafood restaurant Hortas, the Cabana Club will pop up on the Esplanade at Port Noarlunga from Friday 21 December 2018 to Sunday 27 January 2019.

Over its 38 days and nights, the Club will offer a program of special events, including a free Opening Night Fiesta on Saturday 22 December and a New Year’s Eve ticketed event featuring live music and performances.

Southern winemakers will take the reins for the Sunset Wine Dinners series, running every Friday and Saturday night throughout the season. Attendees will enjoy a shared dinner of Mediterranean fare cooked by Hortas’ award-winning Head Chef Geoff Skelton matched with wines from Paxton (28-29 Dec, 25-26 Jan), Maxwell (4-5 Jan), Pertaringa (11-12 Jan) and Doc Adams (18-19 Jan), as the masterminds behind the labels share their favourite stories and insights into the range.

Those wanting a more intimate experience can take a seat at Ana’s Table (Sun-Wed nights) and enjoy a shared feast cooked with love by Filipe’s own mother Ana, who has travelled from Portugal to join her son for the summer and share her favourite traditional recipes.

Cabana Club is also committed to highlighting the quality of South Australia’s produce, sourcing ingredients from the surrounding Fleurieu Peninsula wherever possible and the wider state where not. Wines from nearby McLaren Vale feature alongside beers by Coopers and spirits from local producer Two Accents Gin. Local DJs Ruby Chew, Xanga, Anne Wiberg and The Captain will be on hand Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons to provide a soundtrack for those summer drinks.

“We really wanted to do our bit to highlight Port Noarlunga as a tourist destination,” said owner Filipe Horta.

“We’re seeing more and more visitors coming to the area, looking for fun things to do away from the crowds of the city and the Western beaches, and it seemed crazy not to make use of the amazing views Port Noarlunga has to offer.

“With five new businesses opening this summer the area is really taking off, and it’s great to be part of this movement to create employment and opportunities for people living in the South of Adelaide.

“All of the businesses in the street have been really supportive of the idea; I think we’re all excited to see Port Noarlunga blossom as a tourist destination.”

The Cabana Club is open from 11am to 10pm Sunday-Thursday and 11am-midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
