Review: Heartbreaking and inspiring – Opening Night at the Cunard British Film Festival

Adelaide, are you looking for some new films to sink your teeth into?

Across November, the 2023 Cunard British Film Festival, presented by Palace, will showcase excellence in British cinema at their Eastend and Prospect locations.

Opening Night showcased the true story of Nicholas Winton, his efforts during WW2 to help the vulnerable children of Prague seek refuge in Britain and the lasting impact his desperate efforts had years later.

Fresh off its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, One Life stars Sir Anthony Hopkins as the humble Nicky in his older years whose blunt and witty remarks often had the audience chuckling along.

Heartbreaking and inspiring, this film offers up a reflective tale showcasing the true horrors of war-torn landscapes devastating the lives of many innocent people and the positive impact of asylum.

The 2023 line-up still has more to come, showcasing the filmmaking and acting excellence of British cinema.

From documentaries to thrillers, comedy to musicals, there is a little something on offer for everyone.

Upcoming special event screenings in Adelaide include the Pretty Queer Event featuring Pretty Red Dress and Closing Night’s Wicked Little Letters starring Olivia Coleman, amongst others.
