Recently formed Loc’Ally Theatre Group have put together a wonderful cast as part of their debut Adelaide Fringe show of The Things I Know To Be True by local playwright Andrew Bovell.
Directed by Lochie Daniel, The Things I Know To Be True is a poignant exploration of family dynamics, love and the complexities of human relationships. Set against the backdrop of an Adelaide suburban landscape, this play takes audiences on an emotional journey through the lives of the Price family.
From the start, the authenticity of the characters draws you in. Each member of the Price family is beautifully nuanced and imperfect, with their own struggles. As the story unfolds, we witness the tensions and conflicts that arise when personal aspirations clash with familial expectations.
The show is scored live by pianist Matthew Sutton, ensuring key emotive moments are captured.
What makes The Things I Know To Be True truly remarkable is its ability to capture the universal experiences of love, loss and longing. Through moments of laughter, tears and raw emotion, the play delves deep into the heart of what it means to be human. The dialogue is both intimate and poetic, offering insight into the lives of the Price family members.
The production itself is a triumph, with a talented cast bringing Bovell’s characters to life with honesty and depth. The set design creates a sense of intimacy, allowing audiences to feel like voyeurs peering into the lives of the Price family.
At its core, The Things I Know To Be True is a celebration of the imperfect beauty of family. It reminds us that despite our flaws and differences, the bonds that unite us are unbreakable. In its final moments, you can’t help but feel a sense of gratitude for the people who shape our lives and the moments that define us.
“The Things I Know To Be True” is a masterful piece of storytelling that will resonate with audiences long after the show ends. With its powerful performances and heartfelt narrative, this is a play not to be missed. You might need to bring your tissues, though!
