ADELAIDE FRINGE REVIEW 2025: Twinky Twinky Little Star, Prompt Creative Centre

Zak Vasilou makes his Adelaide Fringe debut with Twinky Twinky Little Star and he’s coming in hot!

Twinky Twinky Litte Star holds nothing back with its sharp tongue, quick wit and big laughs. Zak serves us gritty truths, bold and unashamed authenticity through provocative storytelling.

Hitting his Fringe debut like a seasoned professional, Zak’s autobiographical, part stand-up show, part cabaret is a hilarious first-hand recount of this theatre kid’s coming of age story but even more importantly his coming out story.

Zak playfully analyses his colourful evolution from a young gay boy to a certified Twink. Now at 28, his twink card is soon to be revoked and he is reflecting on his future potential label (or category of animal) that might be assigned as part of the gay community.

But regardless of whether Twinks, Bears, Otters or Seals are your preference, Zak’s Twinky Twinky Litte Star seeks to elevate and evolve beyond any superficial or rigid labels.

With an abundance of personality and self-deprecating sense of humour, Zak gives his audience the permission to join in on the joke. It’s a safe, joyous queer space and the room felt like home for many in the audience.

Twinky Twinky Litte Star is a PowerPoint presentation taking us through Zak’s gay queer awakening. Despite being delightfully and obviously camp since his childhood, Zak’s sexuality was obvious to everyone except him. But he’s here to argue his gay defence and he isn’t afraid to bring the receipts. Incorporating the use of photo albums, old Facebook posts, audio recordings and some pretty incriminating video footage.

An autobiographical comedy show that oozes with originality and quick wit. Twinky Twinky Litte Star is full of heart, hilarity, joy and a big musical number

Twinky Twinky Litte Star is vehement, bold, unashamedly honest and much like Zak – it invites us all to be unapologetically ourselves.
