All the way from the UK, DJ Chris Arnold mixed up a storm to the indisputable classics of The Fab Four, in Beatles Dub Club.
With a range of genres including dub, reggae, house and drum and bass, The Beatles tunes you know and love are reimagined in a solid hour of nostalgic singalong and grooves. DJ Chris Arnold keeps the audience grooving throughout encouraging the crowd to get up off their seats and boogie.
Starting with a dub mix of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” half the crowd were already up and dancing and this trend continued throughout until almost the entire audience filled the dancefloor in Gluttony’s The Virago.
With spins on countless well known tunes such as “Hard Day’s Night”, “With A Little Help From My Friends” and “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club” it was hard not to singalong to every tune.
With colourful lighting, and a simple set up of a man and his decks, you can see why this dance-floor celebration has been popular at music festivals, including Glastonbury. DJ Chris Arnold manages to prove that even the most iconic catalogue in pop history can be reworked.
Things are taken up a notch when a drum and bass version of “Daytripper” drops, a highlight of the evening that kicked the set into a high energy dance party.
Beatles purists should be clear this isn’t your traditional tribute act. The reggae and dub versions feel fresh. You catch yourself singing along to “Come Together” with a bass beat that has been twisted into something to make even the tiredest feet get up and dance.
The atmosphere DJ Chris Arnold brings is where the show shines. Adelaide Fringe always prides itself on creating shared moments, and Beatles Dub Club delivers them in abundance. He encourages everyone to singalong, with favourites “Let It Be” and “Hey Jude” closing out the set.
If you’re simply looking for a night out that guarantees dancing, smiles, and a crowd buzzing with good energy, this is an easy pick. Beatles Dub Club is pure festival vibes. Inventive, energetic, and wildly fun.
You can catch Beatles Dub Club at The Virago in Gluttony until Sunday, March 22. Get your tickets here.
