Russell Brand is well known for his dirty jokes, marrying Katy Perry and his well-informed and often controversial opinions on the state of the world, in particular, wealth distribution.
In his new film, The Emperor’s New Clothes Brand looks at the growing disparity between economic classes by visiting his hometown of Grays, Essex and then taking on the big banks responsible for the global financial crisis.
Although a complex problem, it seems so simple when Brand explains it; the big guys are crooks, ripping off the little guys and the class/economic divide widens.
He tells it how it is and doesn’t evade the irony that he’s one of the wealthy ones, but instead uses his wealth and status to raise awareness of the gross imbalance in the world.
This film is an absolute must-see. Whether you agree or disagree with Brand, this film will get you talking, and that’s exactly what this topic needs; more conversation.
Things can change.
