Entombed A.D. will be touring Australia this May, with the Swedish metal band playing at Fowlers on the 12th.

They are the reincarnation of Swedish “death n roll” icons Entombed, formed by Lars-Göran Petrov, Olle Dahlstedt, Nico Elgstrand and Victor Brandt.

Lars-Göran Petrov says that one of the five members at the time (Alex Hellid) had a different idea for the band, which led to the split.

“It’s basically the same band, just one member quit and started to cry about things and that’s not settled yet,” Petrov says.

“That’s not something we waste our energy on; we’re a band, we make new songs, put out new albums and tour as we should.”

Petrov joined the original Entombed in 1998 before the release of Left-Hand Path, recording on every album until the break-up in 2014 (except on Clandestine in 1991).

The group aims to be a continuation as they continue to play any song they want from Entombed’s previous records.

“Most of us in the band play on those records and it is Entombed, so of course we’re doing songs from the old albums,” Petrov says.

“Especially now when we come down to Australia, we’re going to do a longer set to make everybody happy.”

Entombed split in 2014, seven years after their most recent album, Serpent Saints – The Ten Amendments.

New music had been written after they released that album, but they were stuck with delays and couldn’t record any material.

As soon as the previous band split, they were more than prepared to record Entombed A.D.’s first album Back to the Front.

“We said let’s do an album, then all the negative things started to happen, but we wrote and rehearsed the songs,” Petrov says.

“I don’t think we’ve ever been this prepared going into the studio, once we were in there it went fast because 90% of the songs were rehearsed.”

Alex Hellid reformed the original band in 2016, with a new line-up that included previous members of the band, Nicke Andersson and Uffe Cedelbunt.
