Heavy metal icons, Machine Head finally returned to Adelaide, performing at HQ to a generous sized Tuesday night crowd. The band returned with their new album Catharsis after a completely sold out Australian Tour in 2015.
An Evening With Machine Head is 3 hours of nothing but Machine Head, no support acts, no intermission, everything that isn’t Machine Head performing is cut from the night. In 3 hours the band covered every inch of their discography, touching on everything from 1994 to their brand new 2018 album Catharsis.
Many of the fans had returned to experience An Evening With Machine Head as they donned t-shirts from every era of Machine Head’s career.
Machine Head are offering a live show that no other band at their level is matching. There are bands at stadium level like Iron Maiden and Metallica who perform 2 – 3 hours each night in front of tens of thousands of people, but Machine Head are offering and rewarding an intimate crowd of long-term followers a chance to hear everything they need.
The standard of many live shows nowadays is a few support acts and an hour and half of a headline slot. Machine Head have chucked away the standard and have generously filled the whole night with what the fans came to see. It was bittersweet that there was no opening slot for an Adelaide or international support act because that just meant more time for Machine Head to perform, which everyone in the room had come to see.
Any Machine Head fan would be leaving the venue completely satisfied. It would be hard to find anyone in the crowd who would be asking for more, only because there was nothing left to cover.
