Irish Born and Australian based singer-songwriter Áine Tyrrell has released her new single ‘In This House’ from her upcoming album Return To The Sea.
‘In This House’ grew from the importance of capturing the essence of innate stories that are common across both Australia and Ireland. Generations of tales where others sailed to their shores and stole their land, a land that never invited them in. Finally, the part of the narrative has a chance to be rewritten, spoken and shared in ‘In This House’.
“This song came out of nowhere in a rush of words and melody,” said Áine Tyrrell.
“Essentially ‘In This House’ is a song about consent. There is a shared ancestral memory that myself as an Irish woman and the Aboriginal artists working on this project share. A generational story that we all want to rewrite. Although the song specifically was conceived in the idea of guardianship of land and the destruction that lack of consent has caused, consent is an issue we are all learning to become more aware of in our current social climate and acknowledge the power of what that looks like,” says Tyrrell.
