This month, in collaboration with The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Matty’s Soldiers will host their annual gala dinner in aid of raising much-needed funds and awareness for HHT.

And this year, they are bearing back ceaselessly into the past with a Gatsby theme!

Hosted by the Violante family, who own and operate Seafood Works at Newton Central Shopping Centre, the events have so far raised over $150,000, which has gone towards research and the appointment of a PhD student.

Held at The Grand Ballroom (443 Tapleys Hill Road, Fulham Gardens) on October 27, the Great Gatsby Gala promises to swing you back to the Roaring 20s for a night of entertainment and awareness.

Hereditary Haemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) is a hereditary disorder, which took the life of Matthew Violante and affects Matthew’s 25-year-old sister Alicia and 59-year-old mother Kristina.

Sister of Matthew, event organiser Sara Taji says she hopes the gala will be a chance for people to kick their heels up and give generously to the cause.

“Matty’s Soldiers’ Great Gatsby Gala will be the biggest event yet and we would love the support from our local community as we fundraise to find a cure and help people living with HHT,” she says.

“Through our work, we’ve been able to connect with families across the world who are living the loss and effects of HHT. We want to make a difference and find a cure.”

Guest speakers at the fundraising dinner will be Professor Ingrid Winship and Sandie Baskin from the Royal Melbourne Hospital Foundation.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital is the only hospital in Australia with a HHT research facility and they have been instrumental in creating opportunities for people wanting to contribute to the search for a cure.

Master of Ceremonies Vince Fusco will host the Great Gatsby Gala, with entertainment by Black Cherry Events and performances by The Dance Pad.

There will be raffles, prizes, auctions and silent auctions, as well as a chance to donate to a great cause, which will go towards finding a cure for HHT.
