The Adelaide Entertainment Centre was at capacity on Saturday night for the boys from Blackwood – Hilltop Hoods. And boy, do they know how to raise the roof!

Perth rapper Shadow warmed the crowd up, spitting his slick rhymes over grimy beats. Mojo Juju brought the R’n’B with her effortlessly soulful croon and DJ Nino Brown kept the classics playing in between sets.

After a cosmic intro complete with billowing smoke and a crescendo of strings, Suffa and Pressure MCs stormed the stage a treated the hungry fans to “Chase That Feeling” from 2009’s State of the Art with an explosion of streamers and following it up with “Leave You Lonely” from current album The Great Expanse and perennial Aussie hip-hop staple “The Nosebleed Section”. Both in their 40s now, Suffa and Pressure’s youthful jubilant energy is infectious and had everyone singing along to their popular tunes.

With Plutonic on drums, Debris on the decks and a brass trio, the songs came alive.

Hilltops brought some local talent to the stage in the form of Nyassa who performed the female vocals in hits such as Adelaide based “1955” and the Sia featured “I Love It.” You could tell the MCs were glad to be home calling out to their family and friends and the audience couldn’t have been happier to be South Australian.

To assist with “Won’t Let You Down” another local Adelaide talent, Timberwolf and Melbournian Ecca Vandal performs her part in “Exit Sign”.

Suffa and Pressure get towards the end of their The Great Expanse-heavy set with a few oldies “The Hard Road” and “Still Standing” before an encore of their huge smash “Cosby Sweater”. By this point the crowd was at a fever pitch and the whole bevvy of guest acts joined in for a group selfie.

It’s clear to see how much Hilltops have grown as musicians and performers from their early days and it’s no surprise this tour is breaking records. Hilltop Hoods are officially a stadium act!
