Leconfield Wines, Australia’s oldest family owned winemaking business, has teamed up with the Williams Syndrome Association of South Australia to raise funds for people living with Williams Syndrome.
Williams Syndrome is a genetic condition involving the partial deletion of Chromosome 7 which affects the heart.
People with Williams Syndrome have conditions, usually requiring surgery; learning disabilities and other ongoing medical conditions.
Through their upcoming event on the 27th of December at their iconic McLaren Vale vineyard, Leconfield will host Syn at Sunset, with funds raised being donated to the charity.
Williams Syndrome Association of SA Deputy Chair Trevor Smith is looking forward to working with Leconfield wines to raise much needed funds and awareness for the condition.
“The Williams Syndrome Association of SA Inc is really delighted to be partnering with Leconfield and Richard Hamilton Wines to raise funds and awareness for our charity. The event will be a great night for all. Bring the kids down, there will be plenty for everyone to do including outdoor games to keep the kids occupied,” he says.
Leconfield Wines owner and fifth generation Hamilton, Dr Richard Hamilton says the event will be a wonderful occasion for the whole family.
“What better way to spend your Friday night than watching the sunset at a beautiful vineyard with your family, listening to live music and eating delicious food, and you’ll also be able to support the important work of the Williams Syndrome charity. Most of all, you’ll be able to try some of the best wine in Australia,” he says.
“We’re going to have local band Final Touch performing some party favourites that will keep you on the dance floor all night. There will be coffee and desserts available, as well as a sausage sizzle and BBQ for all to enjoy. Local South Australian favourite, Liquid Delights will also be at the event dishing out their treasured treats: milkshakes, pavlova, sundaes, pancakes with fruit and ice cream, tea and coffee, and much more! Money spent on food at the event will be donated to support those with Williams Syndrome.”
Leconfield Wines in McLaren Vale is one of Australia’s leading winery event venues and plays host to some of the state’s largest concerts.
Their expansive grounds also sees the winery regularly hosting weddings, corporate events, car shows, food and wine events and more.
Through his venue and fine fare, Dr Hamilton wants Syn at Sunset to shine a spotlight on Williams Syndrome to help those in need.
“Unfortunately, not a lot of people have even heard of Williams Syndrome. People with Williams Syndrome often struggle in social situations, and have significantly lower life expectancies than the average Australian. The condition is associated with a wide and diverse array of symptoms that can greatly diminish a person’s quality of life,” he says. “We are really proud to be able to help a local charity group like the Williams Syndrome Association to raise awareness and funds for their important work.”
