An autistic led, sensory friendly interactive live music concert for kids aged 0-7 years, Press Play is premiering at Adelaide Fringe 2025.
Featuring all original music, this super-fun brand new show includes curated activities, such as playing musical instruments, movement and paper craft, with accompanying songs to appeal to the imagination as well as the tactile, visual and auditory senses.
It’s “a sensory playground for kids of all abilities,” says the show’s creator Adelaide musician and Music Therapist, Alice Orchard.
“The first interactive song features a chime forest where kids are invited to come and play some gentle wind chimes – nothing too loud – in our chime trees,” she says. “There are a couple of movement songs, including a ‘making song’ to accompany a making activity. The songs and the structure of the show are designed to not only to be fun and a bit silly but to support positive engagement for our audience throughout.”
A registered Music Therapist and songwriter, Alice says her music in this show was inspired by her work with preschool aged children.
“I started writing music for kids about three years ago,” she says. “I also have lived experience as a late-identified autistic creative, as well as being a parent, an educator and now as a therapist, working with neurodivergent children, adults and families. I wanted to create a show inclusive of all abilities and for a neurodiverse audience, and have put a lot of thought into making it as accessible as possible.”
Press Play premieres at Marion Cultural Centre on Sunday 9th and Sunday 16th March, with tickets available through Fringetix.
Both 45-minute shows are relaxed performances where children are encouraged to move about, sing, play and interact with the performances during the shows.
