Take a bite from this tantalising platter of pure Fringe hedonism.
The Fringe was designed to showcase bold and risky performance, to rattle cages and highlight the dedication of people who live and breathe art in all its messy and uncomfortable forms.
Bravery and boldness doesn’t need to answer to anyone, or make perfect sense, it just has to deliver a cohesive show for an audience hungry for a scratch they didn’t know they needed to itch.
Did this show make perfect sense? No. Was it brilliant? Oh yes, yes it was.
Teasing Myths offers an intimate audience at The Bunker in Victoria Square a slice of authentic Fringe fare, and you should gobble it up.
Is it burlesque? Cabaret? Camp? Acrobatics? All of it, but somehow manages to straddle (pardon the pun) a dizzying array of skills to create a show steeped in mythology without feeling like a lecture from the sociology professor with elbow patches.
Technically flawless, the lighting and sound mirrored the finely honed dancing, which was enhanced by some incredible rope and ribbon acrobatics, set to music from artists like Nine Inch Nails and Massive Attack. As a goth of a certain age, full marks for music and costume design.
This show is a masterclass in how ensembles should work. These performers trusted one another with some daring feats, uncomfortable poses, and a smaller audience than their talent deserves.
A refreshing and brave show which reminds us why the Fringe exists.
This is a show you will kick yourself if you miss it. A show that I think will improve with time and an audience who genuinely loves courageous art.
