Is Casual Receptionist of the Quarter a play? Is it sketch comedy? Is is cabaret? Is it commentary on capitalism, the patriarchy, class structure, and an argument for paying artists a living wage? Yes, it is all of these things. And it’s bloody brilliant.
There’s an energy in Gluttony that’s hard to replicate. It’s palpable. It’s collision of people, shows, food, music and movement. You’ve got queues forming for one show while another crowd spills out laughing. Someone’s midway through a drink, someone else is mid-performance in a corner where you didn’t expect to find anything happening.
B.D.S.M. is slick, tight, impressive show; and an exciting, entertaining, sublime peek into the world of kink and play, presented through the magic of circus and dance, and performed by artists at the top of their game.
In this unique and honest performance, Jobe shares experiences from his life that have inspired the stories and songs he records. Armed with an array of instruments, a loop pedal, and a melodic voice, Jobe performs six beautifully unique and insightful songs that are unlike anything I’ve ever heard—in the best way. At times, I felt transported to the forest, to the outback, and everywhere in between.
Expect beautiful vocal performances backed by a fabulously groovy band who never miss a beat. Bond Songs: The Music of 007 has something for everyone—classic songs from a bygone era, Oscar-winning tracks, and amazing anecdotes and tidbits seamlessly peppered throughout the show.
There was not a thing I would change about this bittersweet production. The Soaking of Vera Shrimp from Patch of Blue is decidedly a 5-star show, and a favourite of the Fringe season.
Be warned, Portals will make you feel deeply, and that is entirely the point. It is lovingly crafted to prompt reflection on humanity and the strange, wonderful and heartbreaking experience of being awake, alive and aware. So, step through the portal. Experience something transcendently beautiful. And let it linger in your thoughts long after the final curtain falls.
