Twenty Sixteen at Gluttony is a powerful, joy-filled reminder of just how deeply music binds memory, grief and celebration. For music nerds and party-seekers alike: this is a five-star, open-air celebration that hits straight in the heart.
This live rockumentary doesn’t dwell in nostalgia, it reclaims 2016, a year many still refer to as “the year the music died,” and transforms it into something communal, electric and life-affirming.

Fronted by an all-star eight-piece band, featuring Kylie Auldist, Jaron Jay and Dusty Lee Stephensen, and Nick Jefferies, the musicianship is nothing short of extraordinary. These performers are stars in their own right, delivering the songs and stories with reverence, swagger and absolute command of the stage. The crowd is right behind them from the first note, following every story beat and riding the emotional highs together.
The show honours the seismic losses of 2016, David Bowie, Prince, George Michael, Leonard Cohen, Maurice White, Sharon Jones, Leon Russell, and more, while also acknowledging the global events that made that year feel so heavy. Ten years on, Twenty Sixteen invites us to celebrate the music that soundtracked our lives, each song carrying personal meaning for someone in the audience.

Set in the open-air venue at Gluttony at The Fantail, the atmosphere feels closer to a festival than a theatre show. Whether it’s a Tuesday or Saturday night, the band keeps the energy alive, loose, generous and deeply engaging. Music nerds will delight in the detail and craftsmanship; those simply out for a great night will be swept up in the warmth, humour and shared memories.
This is absolutely worth your time and money. If you want great live music, compelling storytelling and a crowd buzzing with connection, Twenty Sixteen delivers on every front.
