INTERVIEW: PETER AND BAMBI HEAVEN BRING THEIR MAGIC TO ADELAIDE FRINGE

Coming to us straight from the bright lights and glamour of Burleigh Heads, QLD, Peter and Bambi Heaven are getting ready to show us the magic inside.

The Gold Coast’s favourite illusionists are promising to wow us with mystery, intrigue Peter and Bambi Heaven - The Magic Inside (1)and dance routines at Garden of Unearthly Delights from February 12 to March 13.

Presented by real life couple, and world renowned award winning performers Asher Treleaven and Gypsy Wood, Peter and Bambi Heaven: The Magic Inside was brought about by popular demand from their friends.

“As husband and wife, we are quite an entertaining duo and everyone said, ‘You guys need to get a cooking show together’, but I can’t cook, so we decided to learn magic, which was absolutely hysterical,” Gypsy says.

“I can’t do magic, but I’m quite a good cook,” Asher adds.

Speaking to us from Perth, where they’re performing throughout Fringeworld Festival, the comic couple recently returned from London.

“I was over there doing La Soireé for three months, doing a little return Olivier season, which was wonderful and I didn’t want it to end, but right at the end it became really freezing, so I’m glad it did!” Asher says.

“London was fantastic, excellent, brilliant, amazing; cold!” Gypsy agrees.

Peter and Bambi Heaven: The Magic Inside is making its Adelaide Fringe Festival debut, and the hilarious and incomparable Gypsy and Asher have perfected their high class show for their equally sophisticated audiences.

“We have not done this version of it before. We did a short run of it last year at Perth Fringe, just to see how it would sit. Gypsy and I had not worked together like this before so it was all very new, exciting, scary and bizarre; but now we’ve been working on it really hard for a good year and we’ve just finished doing a few days with a really excellent director called Cal McCrystal who worked on The Mighty Boosh, Spymonkey and One Man, Two Guvnors, so we’re all pumped and ready to take it on the road for the next four or five months,” Asher says.

“We know you really expect a high standard of entertainments at the Adelaide Fringe,” Asher says, “and we wanted to bring the best, and unfortunately, we’re the best.”

Although they originally promised special guests in the show, the team have decided 10598_PETER_-_BAMBI_EFUL_GUIDEthere’s really no one up to the level required to provide five-star entertainment to the masses.

“Unfortunately, we auditioned for special guests for the show up and down the country, but no one was really up to standard,” Asher says.

“So we’ve decided we’re going to do all the acts,” Gypsy interjects. “Because we’re highly skilled and highly trained, and we have studied with the greats all over the world. We’re bringing the best of all variety, dance, magic, song and, did I say dance? Also, dance. It’s world class.”

Asher and Gypsy are both looking forward to coming back to Adelaide and being here for the entire Festival this year.

“We’re looking forward to doing the whole run,” Asher says. “We’re Fringe veterans, but we usually only come in for a couple of weeks. We’ve done Comic Strip there in the past, I’ve done La Soireé, I’ve brought my own shows, I’ve worked with Ali McGregor; Gypsy’s run and produced shows; but this is the first time for both of us that we’re here for the full, epic five week run in The Deluxe in The Garden, so we’re looking forward to being there.”

“Yeah, we’re going to blitz it,” Gypsy says. “We’re going to be the show everyone talks about. Our love and magic is going to exceed all.”

The love she speaks of is that which blossomed between the characters when they met at a personal development conference.

Gypsy Wood has been named the “New Queen of Kink” by Time Out, and she’s an incredible burlesque performer, theatre producer, and has presented a strip tease dressed (then undressed) as former Prime Minister John Howard.

But through Bambi, those days are, behind her.

Well, for this show, anyway.

“There’s no political satire in this show, but there may be a bit of strip tease. But this character has gotten herself together. She went to the Landmark Forum, which is where she met Peter. He opened her up to a lot of new skills that are top, high class entertainment. There’s none of that old, dirty stripping that you might see down on that Hindley Street,” she says.

After their Garden of Unearthly Delights run, the couple plan to jet set across the other side of the world and make it big in the world of magic.

“We’re going direct to Vegas,” Gypsy states.

“We’re going straight to the top, straight to the Diamond Jubilee Hotel,” Asher confirms.

“Yes. A three-year contract; we’re going to be bigger than David Copperfield,” says Gypsy.

“We’re going to be bigger than Penn and Teller,” Asher agrees.

Catch the hilarious Asher Treleaven and Gypsy Wood at The Deluxe in the Garden of Unearthly Delights from February 12 to March 13.
