Adelaide singer songwriter Matiah (AKA Marty Haros) is next week releasing new music accompanied by a brand new video.

Influenced by the bands of a bygone era, Matiah says she started learning music the moment she was able to.

“I’ve had a love for music since I was little. My earliest memory is listening to my dad’s blues cassette tapes and dancing around the house!” she laughs. “I’ve always had a connection to music and taught myself how to play piano as soon as I could walk. Then as I got a little older and started high school I learnt how to play electric guitar because I wanted to be a rock star.

“Bands like Nirvana and The Stones had a huge influence on me growing up as it was all I listened to, so that style of music always resonated with me. It wasn’t until I started playing guitar and writing songs that I found my ‘darker’ side, I guess you could say. Heavier bands like Slipknot and Evanescence showed me it was okay to wear black and write things that weren’t sugar-coated pop music. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I felt like I found where I fit and that was a huge push to get me where I am today.”

And where she is today is about to release ‘We are Falling’.

“‘We Are Falling’ is my upcoming single release and it’s probably one of my favourite songs to date. I remember writing it around this time last year at my piano one night. The second I played the intro on the piano it was like it sparked something in me. I know that sounds a little cheesy but it’s honestly what happened,” Matiah says.

“I saw this image in my head of me standing in a forest and then walking down a train track and I just knew this song was special. From the very start I knew I was going to make a music video for it and knew exactly how it was going to look. From there I began to bring the idea to life. It was through mutual friends that I found Jon Wah, a local Adelaide photographer and after our first meet up we already had the vision. The video has beautiful, cinematic scenery, which was exactly what I wanted. There’s also a gothic/dark vibe going on as well which is something people should always expect from me.”

Dropping on September 10, the single will be something quite different for Matiah and she hopes people will like it as much as she enjoyed making it.

“I’m so excited for people to hear this track because it’s so different from anything I’ve released so far. My music is usually very piano/orchestra based but this one is electronic,” she says.

“I worked with some very talented people to bring this song to life and I’m looking forward to showing everyone that I can create all types of genres within my music. As an artist, I’m still searching for my sound and want to show people that you don’t have to be limited to one genre to express how you write and create music.”

And we won’t have to wait long for more from Matiah because ‘We Are Falling’ will be closely followed by her next track.

“I’ve already finished my next single, which will be released later this year; so that’s exciting. I’m working on another music video, a few collabs, and even working towards playing some shows early next year. I write music every day and I want to create and release as much music as I can and work with as many people as possible. I’m so excited and I cannot wait for people to hear what I’ve been working on,” she says.
