FRINGE REVIEW: CIRQUE AFRICABIG TOPPROGRAM 1 – 2020

A taste of African culture executed in a circus phenomenon, this show differs from your more typical circus acts by displaying sheer skills, high-energy all embodied with an African flair and cultural significance. Cirque Africa boasts that no two shows are alike! Program 1 and program 2 provide two different experiences – with the same cast, making it the perfect show for the whole family!

The show was at times anxiety inducing as the performances displayed some death-defying acts that us on edge of our seats. For those of us afraid of heights, flying objects and seeing the human body bend in ways that aren’t for the faint of heart!

Cirque Africa is presented from its own circus tent separate from the rest of Adelaide Fringe giving it a feel of circus authenticity and a nostalgic throwback to the excitement of childhood.

The show also runs at various timeslots throughout the day (the performance stamina being second to none). This thankfully provides viewers various options of when they can come to enjoy!

The only criticism I have is that it is very hot in that tent so my advice would be to see the show on a day where it’s not too hot or muggy – or alternatively, fan yourself with your Fringe guide!

Fortunately, The Adelaide Fringe Festival is very lucky to have Cirque Africa delivered to our doorsteps for this remarkable time of year. It’s not every day we get the opportunity to see an entirely authentic African circus jam-packed with such a talented cast. As the host of Cirque Africa says himself, without the support of the audience – Fringe goers may have to endure yet another all Australian circus / physical theatre act in the years to come!

I would recommend this show as an afternoon well spent. Get your tickets HERE.
