Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Review: The Burlesque Blues

Burlesque, blues and fire eating on a rooftop bar… atop a pool… in a storm. What more could you ask for?

Lyra LaBelle is well known for producing some of the best in burlesque in Adelaide and her Cabaret Fringe offering is no exception.

Featuring Lyra as host (with a red hot crescendo of a finale), and a smokin’ blues band to accompany, we are treated to a stellar line-up of burlesque beauties.

Set on the rooftop of Nineteen Ten Burlesque & Jazz Bar, The Burlesque Blues is a smorgasbord of stunning costumes, seductive sirens and sultry songs.

All bringing their own style and sass to the stage, Letitia Stitch, Willow J Conway, Lizzy Baker, Nona Mona and Leopard Lass treat a hollering and whooping audience to a night of tease and tricks, with the perfect amount of comedy and spectacle.

Lyra keeps the show moving with her whip smart wit and sexy school-teacher-esque scolding, keeping us in all line, while simultaneously getting us revved up and ready for the next act.

And the acts do not disappoint. It’s hard to pick a stand out performer, but definitely a highlight was the flame-breathing Leopard Lass whose great ball of fire warmed us all up, including the audience members hiding under their own umbrellas, braving the weather for their Saturday night entertainment – that’s commitment to cabaret!

A masterclass in tease, titillation, risk assessment and avoiding slips and falls in the workplace, The Burlesque Blues was worth getting wet for.

If you love top-notch burlesque, world-class live music, stunning costumes, sparkles, feathers, fur and glamour, this is the show for you.

Don’t miss it.
