For the first time since 2019, Hilltop Hoods are playing on home ground next month, and they’re bringing a lineup of local superstars with them.
Coming off the back of a huge national tour, the band will play Adelaide Entertainment Centre on the 24th of September with A.B Original, Elsy Wameyo and DJ Total Eclipse for The Show Business Tour.
After The Great Expanse World Tour in 2019, saw them playing to 100,000 fans in 14 different countries, Suffa (Matt Lambert) says it’s great to be touring again, even if Covid restrictions gave him some much-needed family time in a town he loves.
“It had some bonuses. I’ve got two young girls, three and five. I got to spend two years with my children. I’ve got a studio at home, and because of quarantine, and all the rules we spent a lot of time together. I feel really lucky to have had that time with them because not a lot of people get to spend that much time with their kids when they are under five,” he says.
“Adelaide is just a beautiful city, and a great place to raise a family. There’s a really vibrant music and arts scene through February to March and it’s one of the best places to be on earth. I mean, considering the situation of the world right now, it’s pretty safe. Even from natural disasters; apart from bushfires we are pretty sheltered. I love Adelaide, it’s a great place to live. And all my stuff’s here.”
Joining Hilltop Hoods for their national tour A.B Original will be performing some of their new music alongside their tracks from their iconic debut album Reclaim Australia with Adelaide rising star, Elsy Wameyo, who Suffa reckons is going from strength to strength.
“How great is she? And we’re just part of her path. I think she’s creating her own way regardless of who she’s supporting, or what’s in the pipeline because she seems to just be taking off,” he says. “She produces her own beats as well. She’s amazing.”
The tour celebrates the release of Hoods’ brand-new single ‘Show Business,’ which features US singer songwriter Eamon.
Suffa says the name ‘Show Business’ is an ironic in-joke the guys share when they’re living a less-than-glamourous tour life.
“It comes from a bunch of conversations I’ve had with my buddy, Scott, over the years. He often talks to us when we are at a bus stop in the middle of Utah or a motel in Hamburg; a dingy sort of place, all living in a bus with a bunch of people, and he says ‘What, quit show business?’ and that’s where it came from,” he says.
Hilltop Hood’s unmatched career speaks for itself with 10 ARIA awards; six number one albums; the number one most streamed Australian artist on Spotify two years running; sold out arena tours and over 60 platinum accreditations and counting.
