Millicent Sarre is back for Fringe and she’s tired (tired of the b*llshit)

In a classic case of art imitating life a burnt out Fringe artist has created a Fringe show about burnout.

In a world premiere at Adelaide Fringe 2026, award winning cabaret star Millicent Sarre is tackling an issue that many artists struggle through silently.

In her latest offering, Millicent Sarre is Too Tired to Smash (Patriarchy) she is turning her attention to a topic close to her heart: Burnout.

The creator of previous smash hit, sold out works Opinionated, Friendly Feminism and Bisexual Intellectuals, Millicent is known for her ability to take nuanced social justice issues and make them accessible through her humour, whip smart patter and original songwriting.

“I’ve found myself in a fog of burnout fairly regularly over the last couple of years, and it seems to be a challenge that we are struggling with en masse,” Millicent says.

“I see hustle culture, an unsteady economic landscape, and ongoing global tragedy as contributing factors to widespread burnout. The longer I’ve sat with it, read about it, and spoken to the people around me, the more I’ve made connections with the systemic issues that I believe play a part. Some are as modern as the intense rate of technological advancement, but other factors are more longstanding, like the ongoing prevalence of harmful gender norms. The way I see it, burnout is a feminist issue, and an issue of progress and change. And I want to talk about it.”

A music-theatre trained artist known for her knockout vocals, Millicent’s latest show will mark a new era in her songwriting and vocal performance.

“The songs of this score heavily rely on a loop station, allowing me to harmonise with myself and create lush vocal arrangements with just one voice. I’m excited to share this new aspect of my artistry with my audience, while still giving them the vulnerable and introspective songwriting that makes up the DNA of my shows,” Millicent says.

“Ultimately I want this show to be an hour of reprieve; a balm. If audiences walk away feeling a little less depleted, a little more hopeful, like the have a little more power and agency to make a positive impact, then I will have done my job.”
