Triple the laughs with three WeeStus for the price of one this Adelaide Fringe!

In his Fringe solo show debut, Adelaide comic WeeStu is bringing a world premiere of Stunted Growth – A Tragicomic Triptych in 3 Gear Changes to Goodwood Theatre.

A unique comedy theatre show, WeeStu explores, in three tonally different acts, the late midlife and other existential crises of one small, possibly former Scotsman.

Act 1 – WeeStu is not a MAMIL (Middle Aged Man In Lycra) will do a deep dive into themes of ageing, fear of imminent death, male mental and physical health. He promises audiences will gasp in awe as he rides his bike on stage; not for the guts or glory of Cadell, but just to avoid an aneurism.

Act 2 – The Lederhosen Chronicles will tell the darkly comic true tale of a young boy sent to school in Scotland in lederhosen. This act confronts issues of wartime trauma, childhood abuse and PTSD – Post Traumatic Scottish Disorder.

Act 3 – The Braveheart Sonnets is a bravura exercise in Shakespearean theatric hubris and ambition. The spirit of Scotland’s (and Mel Gibson’s) greatest hero – William (Braveheart) Wallace – is resurrected to battle the idioms and tempo of The Bard. Iambic pentameter will never sound the same again.

Giving Fringe goers value for money, WeeStu offers three short shows for less than the cost of two small drinks and one kebab of regret at The Garden or Gluttony.

But wait, there’s more! Thanks to the generous support of some local Goodwood Road businesses, WeeStu guarantees that no one leaves empty handed. You’ll have to get along to the show to find out what that means!

Having been mentored and directed in this production by legend of the local comedy and theatre stages, Ross Vosvetekas, Stunted Growth – A Tragicomic Triptych in 3 Gear Changes is presented through a combination of pathos, darkly humorous storytelling, and absurdist theatrics.

What emerges is a unique theatrical experience weaving WeeStu’s current and past existential crises together and leading to a realisation that, even at the age of 65, it is never too late to take risks and challenge yourself – in life and on the stage.

Themes: Men’s physical and mental health, ageing, fear of death, wartime trauma, childhood abuse, PTSD, masculinity.

Warnings: Possible swearing (WeeStu does come from Scotland), mild partial nudity and frequent use of iambic pentameter.
