The Art Gallery of South Australia is showing a free exhibition of the works of Chiharu Shiota as part of OzAsia Festival.
Recognised the world over for her immersive string installations, this is the first solo exhibition of Shiota’s work in an Australian public gallery.
Spanning 25 years, this exhibition explores early performances captured through photography and video as well as presenting new sculptures, drawings and paintings.
Also on view is a major commissioned acquisition for the Gallery’s collection featuring Shiota’s string practice.
Comprised of 200 kilometres of red string, Absence Embodied transforms the space within the Melrose Wing.
This stunning exhibition has been made possible through the generous support of the Gwinnett family.
