With sold out shows every year, ImproNOW! is a stalwart of the Adelaide Fringe scene and it’s here to stay.
In 2019, the 15th Theatresports™ Clash of the Titans features teams of local, national and international Fringe improvisers who act out short scenes based on audience suggestions, which are then scored by judges and audience alike.
Up to 10 shows across the Adelaide Fringe program are represented, so it’s the perfect solution for those who can’t choose what to see and who want to try a bit of everything.
ImproNOW founder and Aldinga Beach local, Anne Mayer says the show has been so popular for so long because of its showcasing of many shows in an unpredictable setting.
“It’s a great way to get a taste of the Fringe, whether you’re a Fringe junkie or you’ve never been to a show,” she says. “Also it’s G-rated, so it suits everyone. If there is a blooper the gong forces the improviser to scramble for an appropriate response, so it’s fast-paced, competitive fun.”
“The Hanging Judge is always a favorite, too. Don’t we all love to ‘boo’ someone, especially when they deserve it! He laps it up and so do the audience. Participation is always encouraged and there’s a place to write scene suggestions before the show. A few keen volunteers may get stage time, but mostly it’s a show to sit back, relax and enjoy.”
Past performers in the show have been Tommy Little (The Project), Tom Walker, Rebecca De Unamuno (Thank God You’re Here), Hannah Gadsby, The Two Canadians, Sound & Fury, and Baby Wants Candy.
15th Theatresports Clash of the Titans will play at Tandanya throughout Fringe featuring some of the best of the fest going head to head.
