Presented by George Dimarelos, A Booklover’s Comedy Show is a self-described “compilation show featuring a rotating bill of comedians and storytellers talking about everything book related”.
With an ice-breaking introduction and performance analysis from ‘Fantasy-Greek’ George, the show is broken into four short sets from featured comedians, with interludes from George for each.
The evening’s acts included an analysis of a novel, why non-fiction texts get a bad rap, and a ‘Hammersmith’ who created a rap utilising objects from the audience; each performed with a different interpretation of the booklover theme in terms of set content and delivery.
A hodgepodge of nuance novel jests, winks to the audience as they slight fans of the bougie classics, and pokes fun of the entirety of Western Australia (the only apparent readers of Tim Winton); the show is ambitious considering the scope of content, but doesn’t quite deliver as the title promises.
You’ll laugh aloud at this one, and it’s best served with a couple of wines beforehand.
