THE 60 FOUR: IN CONCERT TAKES FRINGE ON THE ROAD

The 60 Four is an Adelaide Fringe favourite, presenting the hits of the ’60s with a contemporary sound and superb showmanship, and this year, they’re taking the show on the road.

From Norwood Concert Hall to Port Pirie, Whyalla, Renmark, Mount Gambier, Kangaroo Island and a few spots in between, the five young showmen are excited about their biggest season yet.

“We have performed in the last five Adelaide Fringe seasons,” Director and group member Ben Francis says. “We started off in small, 40-seat venues and have gradually grown to sell out venues such as the Norwood Concert Hall. This season is our biggest yet, with a massive South Australian tour – twelve shows over nine locations!”

Ben Francis, along with Lachlan Williams, Kyle Hall and Finnegan Green began performing 60s songs at school together in Adelaide.

From there, they found a following and have taken the show to new heights each year.

“This year, we are backed by a nine-piece band made up of brilliant local musicians,” Ben says. “What makes The 60 Four unique is the youth and energy that enables those who grew up in the ’60s to relive their adolescence with a performance that has an energy and excitement parallel to the original experience. Although the music we perform is well known, the vocal and music arrangements are our own. So, whilst the music is anchored in the ’60s, we add intricate harmonies and big-brass riffs that have a timelessness that appeals to contemporary audiences, too.”

And while the show has earned a reputation among those who pioneered the music of the time, it’s almost impossible for everyone else not to fall in love with the music that shaped a generation.

“The show is aimed at the people who lived through the ’60s and grew up with the music, but the music is just so brilliant, young people love it too. We haven’t had a bad review yet!” Ben says.
