The slick, Broadway production of Hairspray is heading to the Adelaide Festival Centre from December 27, so get your curlers in and book your tickets.
Set in 1962, Baltimore, Maryland, Hairspray tells the story of dance-loving teenager, Tracy Turnblad and her lifelong dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show and when this dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social exile to sudden superstar and she must use her brand-new clout to triumph the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and amalgamate a TV network… all without denting her ‘do!
The winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, will star Shane Jacobson, Todd McKenney, Rhonda Burchmore, Rob Mills, Asabi Goodman, Javon King and introducing Carmel Rodrigues with Donna Lee.
The creative team behind the Hairspray production are non-other than acclaimed Director Jack O’Brien (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), and Choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots).
The Broadway production of Hairspray also toured nationally across the US, a West End production was nominated for a record-breaking 11 Olivier Awards, and it was adapted as a film in 2007 starring John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, and Zac Efron.
