Take a walk on the Wild Side this Adelaide Fringe

On the back of their smash hit season at Newcastle Fringe Wild Side is headed to Adelaide Fringe, promising burlesque, pole dancing, sideshow, hula hooping and more.

With a head-banging soundtrack of thunderous 80s glam rock classics with glitter and sass to match, you’ll see hula hoop superstar Hannah Indigo (QLD), human hurricane of pole dance Cleo Rapture (NSW) and winner of The Apprentease and Burlesque Muse ACT 2021 Sian Brigid (ACT).

Playing Empire Cabaret Theatre, Wonderland Festival Hub in Hindmarsh Square until 10 March, Hannah Indigo says the music and talent are the main draw cards for Fringe enthusiasts.

“The specific music genre I think makes the show stand out. I’ve seen a lot of 80s parody shows but not anything that is dedicated to 80s rock. As a passionate 80s rock fan, this show is everything I could have dreamed of and is my way of travelling back in time to that era,” Hannah says.

“Our show originated in Newcastle NSW and consisted of 90% Newcastle based artists, but has now expanded out to include artists from all over Australia.”

For many in the cast, this is their first Adelaide Fringe and the troupe are excited to get amongst it.

“I’m personally excited to see all of the shows on around us,” Hannah says. “I plan to get to as many as I possibly can, as well as networking and also getting to see people I haven’t been able to see, due to the past few years. It’s been really hard on the Arts, as we all know, but for me one of the really hard parts has been the inability to stay physically connected with my peers.”

And the desire to connect with audiences of all walks of life is crucial to Hannah and the team, which is why they have a focus on inclusivity.

“Accessibility is important to us, and as a cast that consists of queer, disabled, First Nations and neurodivergent artists, we have made it a priority to have shows that cater to as many humans as possible,” Hannah says. “Our venue, Empire Cabaret Theatre is wheelchair accessible, our Saturday 18th February show at 7pm is a relaxed performance with low sound volume and moderate lighting, and our Thursday 9th March show is AUSLAN interpreted.”

Wild Side is for anyone who loves an 80s hair rock banger or loves the thrills of a sexy, sassy, superstar line up that makes up the quintessential Fringe show.

“This show is dedicated to anyone and everyone that has ever air-guitared along to ‘Sweet Child O’Mine’ or air-drummed to ‘Kickstart My Heart’ in their bedroom, or made mix tapes by recording their favourite tracks on the radio!” Hannah says. “This genre is for everyone (over the age of 18 of course!), so book a babysitter, dust off your leather and strap in for a walk on the Wild Side!
