Local comedy favourite Jacob Jackman debuts his brand new show at Gluttony this Fringe, which promises to be “bigger than the Titanic and the Hindenburg combined.”
From working in an animal crematorium to selling his body to medical science, Mr Comedy explores the highs and lows of show business, told from the perspective of somebody mainly acquainted with the lows.
Previously hailed as “A one-man masterclass of stand-up, sketch comedy, silliness and social commentary” (Upside Adelaide), Jacob presents a vision of modern life and entertainment that is equal parts absurd, cuttingly sardonic, and earnest.
“This year I was lucky enough to receive a grant from the Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund,” says Jacob. “I’ve been given a great opportunity to fully realise this show about squandered opportunities.”
Mr Comedy follows Jacob’s attempt to produce a biopic about the fictional comedian Jerry Pissfeld, a crude, abstract parody of dated stand-up comedians, satirising discourse on cancel culture and political correctness.
Pissfeld, once the world’s foremost piss-based observational comedian, struggles to adapt to a changing cultural and political climate and finds himself at a spiritual and creative crossroads.
While Mr Comedy has received generous funding, the fictional “biopic” the show is centred around has yet to receive funding, staging the entire show as a desperate attempt to raise more cash.
