MERMAIDS IN THEIR NATURAL HABITAT: ADELAIDE FRINGE, OF COURSE!

Mermaids have descended upon Rymill Park lake for Adelaide Fringe and are set to make a bit of a splash!

A fun and fantastical interactive installation for everyone, Natural Habitat – Mermaids of Rymill Park asks you to leave your story book at home because these they will break some stereotypes and make some waves.

Concept creation and producer Lauren Eisinger says the team, who originate from NSW are world class and swimming with talent.

“Our mermaids and their world have been expertly realised by Beeswax and Bottlecaps directors Lil Tulloch and George Le Couteur,” she says. “There really is nothing these creative masterminds and extraordinary performers cannot do. We have a rotating pod of ten mermaids, featuring artists who have performed on stages in every continent including for Sydney Festival, Circus Oz and Edinburgh Fringe.”

A veteran of Adelaide Fringe herself, Lauren is thrilled to be bringing this show to a festival she adores.

“This will be my tenth Adelaide Fringe,” she says. “This festival holds such a special place in my heart. I’ve worked on independent shows, produced my own work, produced for large venue hubs, judged for Fringe awards and attended as industry. The Fringe is utterly magical, I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

“And the best thing will be seeing real mermaids in their natural habitat. You can meet five, unique unconventional mermaids each with their own tale to tell. Choose your own adventure, ask your own questions, share your own stories. Escape the world you know and believe in magic for a short while. Take your selfies and hashtag your Instagram, or discover a poignant message about the sustainability challenges facing our natural world. Spend a little time or roll out your beach towel and spend a while. This is the pod’s natural habitat, but you’re invited to come and play.”

A unique experience, this show is one for the enthusiast, the curious and the dubious!

“I mean who wouldn’t want to see a real mermaid?” Lauren laughs. “If you read your kids Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls; if you believe curiosity and imagination are underrated, if you think it’s kind of fun to do the impossible or can’t pass up the opportunity for a great photo then you’ll love Natural Habitat.

Natural Habitat is truly unlike any other experience at the Fringe. A choose-your-own-adventure that is full of heart, busts some archaic stereotypes and spreads poignant and inspiring ideas.”
