A raw and authentic look behind the curtains into the world of a glamorous and competitive artform, Shaun Birtles is bringing their comedy cabaret drag show to Adelaide Fringe.
A stalwart of the drag scene in Melbourne, Shaun (aka Abril LaTrene) is making their festival debut with The Big D, a first person adventure that unpacks what happens when addiction overtakes art.
“My show explores what it’s like for artists to make it in the world of social media and reality TV whilst dealing with alcohol addiction,” Shaun says. “Then having to make a decision between their own life or continuing to make art. The show really unmasks what goes on for some drag performers when the camera or stage lights are not on.”
Their first time in Adelaide, Shaun is looking forward to soaking in the atmosphere and being part of all that our festive season has to offer.
“I am looking forward to immersing myself in Adelaide Fringe I’ve never performed like this outside of Melbourne so cannot wait to take it all in.”
With the show promising to reveal the secrets of both Shaun the artist and Abril LaTrene the glam alter-ego, this is a drag show unlike any other you’ve ever seen.
“This is a show that will make you laugh, think, cry and wonder WTF?” Shaun says. “It’s a show for everyone: artists, drag lovers, allies of the LGBTIQA+ community, and those that are looking to be shocked and fall in love with drag.”
The Big D is on from Tuesday 21 Feb – Saturday 25 Feb at 10pm at Prompt Creative Centre. Grab your tickets HERE.
