On the back of the success of their Adelaide Fringe hit Haiku For You, Alex and the Babes bring us She Shanties at Howling Owl for CabFringe.
Playing Thursday 25, Friday 26 May and Friday 2 June, the show promises an hour of nautical misadventures based on audience suggestions, combining theatre, cabaret and maritime puns.
Brought to us by Alex and the Babes, Adelaide’s only all-women improv troupe, the show features a cast of local arts aficionados.
“Our cast includes the Artistic Director and teachers from the On the Fly Impro theatre training organisation, a professional children’s entertainer, seasoned cabaret performers, two published authors, identical twins, and Australian Army Reservist,” Alex Bassett says.
The premise is this: we’ve got an hour until the ship reaches land so Alex and the Babes use the time to tell a story on the deck based on suggestions from the audience.
“Every show will be different, but we guarantee there will be plenty of moments to sing along!” Alex says. “Each She Shanties performance and selection of songs will be totally unique. Participation is as mild or active as you prefer – we encourage suggestions at the start to kick off the action, then the audience can sing along with the shanties as loud as they like! The more energy you bring, the better the show.”
